Avi Nesher and Robert Altman

Avi Nesher, while in the states in the '70, wrote about Robert Altman, and I remember his talking about the director when he returned to Israel, before making "Ha lahaka". It's interesting to see possible influence in this film, the multi-charactered narrative, overlapping dialog, long shots, etc. A good double-feature would be this film along with "Nashville".

One of the greatest Israeli films, combining drama and humor, popular and "artistic" cinema. It gave birth to many future stars. A great time capsule of the period, showing a really great Israeli institution, the old army entertainment groups. Still funny today, with great music.

Glad to see someone actually found my post.

It's a shame that Avi Nesher never made a film anywhere as good as this one, but I would recommend is more recent http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374279/.
