Which version of Blu Ray is the best?

I have the 03' double disc version with the isolated bass and extras. I'd like to upgrade to BD but I can't find anything definitive if I should go for the "Special" version or the "Deluxe" version. Seems like it was confusing even back in 03'. Any thoughts?
