Fake Al Jolson and SophieTucker
This movie was a lot of fun. Burns is just wonderful playing essentially himself, that old vaudevillian, who just loved what he did. Shields is also very appealing, in probably her best role. Seems she just got less and less appealing as she aged, at least in my opinion. One interesting thing is that Burns' character got his alarm clock programmed to wake him up to songs by Al Jolson and Sophie Tucker. Very clever except that for some reason the songs heard were sung by imitators, and not the actual performers. Don't know if there was some problem obtaining the rights to the actual performers' work or they were just trying to save some money. Must have frosted Burns who was one of the great Jolson fans ever. In fact Jolson was his idol.
