OH MY GOD .... Gloria Grahame - In A Lonely Place

If you have seen this movie you have to remember the Mother character, who is played by a woman called Gloria Grahame. So forgetable I imagine, though the character was fantastic, I would never have thought to read about her ... except tonight I fell totally in love with her from a movie with Humphrey Bogard called "In a Lonely Place(1950)" This woman is so beautiful and so good an actress .. if you ever get a chance to see this movie see it.

hahaha ... the mother character was so screwball ... she was a great looking old gal, but when you see "In A Lonely Place" you realize she was a world-class beauty that lookes a bit like Lauren Bacall, or Myrna Loy. Just makes me like this movie even better.

Yes, actually I have seen her. and agree it makes her character here even better!

perhaps more famous for her role as the town jezabel in ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE

She was actually quite an actress for a while, from lots of film noirs to the other end of the spectrum as Ado Annie in Oklahoma!

Very unusual-looking yet pretty and talented. Too bad she died at such a young age (her 50's, if I recall)

One of her last films was "Melvin and Howard," though I don't remember her there.

She's a terrific supporting character in a film with nothing but strong characters. I could see why Charles would seek stability in a mate with a mother like that.

Stupid question: Was the point of the laxative to lose weight? It seems like a lot of women did this, particularly anorexics (Karen Carpenter, for example).
