I was in Hollywood back in 1981, staying at a motel on Hollywood Blvd. I would spend most of my time on Hollywood Blvd. and I never once saw the giant lady over the massage parlor storefront they called Wild Marys. I think that must've been filmed at a studio backlot and not in Hollywood.

In the book/novel they said it was on Hollywood Blvd, however.

It was on Santa Monica Blvd. in WeHo.

Hmm... I'm not so sure. I heard the commentary by director Paul Schrader and he said they were only allowed to film in the 'combat zones' in San Diego and San Francisco, but not Los Angeles, so if true, then that scene wouldn't have been filmed on Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.
