Henri Decae?!

I couldn't believe my eyes when Decae's name cropped up as DP in the opening credits of a late 70s British TV movie! But what follows is signature work from him - a bit slow-moving and some clunky directing and acting, but the lighting and cinematography really are a cut above - as you'd expect from the man who shot The 400 Blows, Le Samourai and Army Of Shadows. He must have really been slumming it at the end of his career.

McGoohan is excellent too, as always - and Van Cleef is a great foil for him. Quality stuff - a pleasant surprise, and a real undiscovered gem. Out on R2 DVD soon too (March 2009).
