Am I alone in thinking this is one of the greatest romantic movies ever? I just love the ending where he turns and walks out of her life forever. So SAD!! Halloran has surely got to be one of the "heroes" of his time.
No, no, no, no - You are DEFINITELY not alone in thinking that!
I absolutely love this movie and I know it is a little cheesy in places, but it is what I would call "an old fashioned 40's style romance". And, by the way that person who left a comment about their love not being credible, has obviously not had that happen to them, but I have fallen in love that quickly, so I know exactly what the characters are going through!
I agree about the score, it is lovely and I was watching a film the other day called Enigma, that is also set during WWII and I thought, that music sounds familiar, well would you believe it was by the same composer as Hanover Street! It was weird.....
But enjoy Hanover Street for what it is - old fashioned and melodramatic, I just watch it for Harrison Ford when he was a corker!
i rewatched it yesterday. the first time i watched the film because i was a harrison ford fan but now, i would go definitely with christopher plummer! he is and looks great! i also think the lines between leslie ann down and harrison ford are absolutely corny

Another wonderful WW II romance is "Shining Through" with Michael Douglas. Watch the film first, then read the novel by Susan Isaacs to get some more background information. You will love it!
I saw no great romance between Ford and Down. I found that aspect of the movie a total disappointment. I don't know how this movie was billed or advertised when it first was released but when Christopher Plummer and Harrison Ford team up, one not knowing how to speak German and the other not combat proven, I actually thought it was going to be a comedy.
I thought there was more chemistry between Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt in the movie "Castaway". And I don't think Helen Hunt was in the movie for more than 20 minutes.
