Oscar snubs one of the best musical film adaptations

Just watched the movie again last night on Amazon. I thought, when it came out and still do, that the film should have received Oscar nominations for Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Annie Golden), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Costumes.

I agree, this was an Oscar snub. Also, the music didn't get the recognition it deserved. I wonder why it wasn't well received? What about a Tony Award?
