No wonder he was so mad about losing.

For a film based in the 1960s. In the low rent, military paid confines of Beaufort. It's called "Making Do!". Many long decades before over paid sports figures began pimping Chinese slave labor, sweat shop made, ridiculously over priced shorts and gimmick filled, next to useless shoes?

What does one expect? There's an entire chapter in the novel devoted to the smells and sounds of just bought sneakers. And their different noise made on linoleum and polished wood.

The thing I wondered about the one-on-one basketball scene, was that why did they keep pointlessly going around in circles instead of trying to find a shooting position as directly as possible; they just kept bouncing that ball around endlessly as if they'd forgotten that the objective of the whole thing is to score points.

Oh, I don't know....today, everyone walks around dressed like they're on a basketball court when they should be wearing jeans.

Neither one of them were very good at basketball so they probably would have lost the ball had they tried anything more difficult.

I was in Jr high and high school in the late 70s/early 80s and we always played ball in our jeans. Basketball, baseball, and football.

Lots of people wear jeans playing informal basketball (and baseball, and football) games. What would be odd would be if some guys just started a pickup game at the park or in their own driveway, and went in first and put on the proper uniforms. Nobody does that.
