1970's Airport security! ( Or lack of )

Ah yes, the good old days! People able to just wander around on the tarmac, parking you cars right where the plane pulls up, adding your own luggage to the luggage that is being loaded onto planes!

Ya lol...just watched this movie...haven't seen it since I was a kid.

I love the part when the plane blows up and a few minutes later everything is back to normal at the airport like it never happened. Lol if that happened now the whole damn airport would shut down indefinitely.

Life goes on.

well I wasn't born until 1981. But did fly a bit in the late 80s/90s..and it was way more lax even then. I remember my folks being able to smoke on the plane in the smoking section

last i flow was 2007...and man was that a pain in the arse security wise.

those good ole days I guess.

my uncle told me of the time in the 1960s as a kid, you could board a plane with a .22 rifle over his shoulder and stow it away....

Up until the early 1970s there was basically no airport security at all. You could carry anything you wanted on a plane. No x-ray, no metal detectors.

On some of the short haul shuttle flights (like NY-DC) you just got on the plane and paid for your ticket in flight.

And this persisted even after a bunch of high profile hijackings in the late 1960s. The airlines fought the government over imposing stricter security measures because they thought it would cost them business. They would rather just pay off the hijackers and get their planes back.
