All About The Fish

I have to admit that what attracted me to seeing the film is that Loretta Lynn did a duet on the soundtrack.

The film has been called typical low budget 1970s film. Well if you were expecting some high tech Oscar winning movie, then you were already heading in the wrong theatre.

If you wanted to see a film and vote for the underdog and sweat with them while they pull together with the help of a astrologer, then you have gone into the right theatre. Yup, Stockard Channing does still the show and run with it.

The film is cute, predictable, and very nostalgic. Oh and don't forget the soundtrack it is cool and has some of the hottest stars from the 1970s including the reigning Queen of Country Music, Loretta Lynn..."Is It Love, Must Be Love."

I loved the movie just for the soundtrack, full of campy 70s songs, and yeah, the Loretta Lynn song was excellent.

I also like the "Moses you're the one" song that's played in the Mose's dunking at the park montage.

Campy 70s songs is right. What other film can you boast Loretta Lynn and the Sylvers in the same breath? Anyone been around long enough to remember them, singing w/those afros, bell bottoms & platforms? Rose Royce songs aside, 'Fish' tops 'Car Wash' with sports & much more goin' on than that tepid cousin of a movie.

Actually, the song played during the dunking in the park montage was "No one does it better" by the Spinners. But I like "Moses youre the one" as well. I love the soundtrack for this movie. I wish it could be purchased.

reply

ah right, very good memory, that was "No one does it better". Sucks not having a DVD out there, I haven't seen the movie in like 4 years :-(.

reply

You may well be right about the Spinners song but the Sylvers were shown performing center court during half time of the finale. Haven't seen this movie since the 80s but still don't need a DVD to remind me of Sylvers being in that one.

At the Twin Cinemas, it was either this or The Warriors. At 9 y.o., I couldn't go see The Warriors.

Hey, I'm with you. I was the same age, but I got to see them both! You say you're going to see Fish and then you just slide into see The Warriors. Worked every time.

reply

I had this inconceivable knack for blabbing and also saying "I want to go home!" whenever my older brothers would take me to the movies. So, if we sneaked in to see the Warriors, they'd probably get in trouble by my little big mouth.
