Did the murderer have a pair of cracked glasses???

I have been looking for the movie I saw as a kid circa 1980 and the murderer was revealed by his glasses which had a crack in them. This title sort of rings a bell and I do remember that there were flashbacks in the movie.

Wow! Who wrote this? I spent an hour or so going thru IMDB search and then yahoo to solve this mystery and then I discover this! Yep, this is the movie - it is amazing but little things like this can bug you for years and years, thanks.

Hi scott-a-murdock,

I just watched "The Evictors," and it's been at least 20 years since I saw it last. It also left an impression on me when I saw it on HBO many years ago. It still holds up as a nifty little movie.

I watched it a week ago & I didn't get the cracked glasses thing. You see who the killer is. It's the guy & his wife who lived in the house before everyone else & they were kicked out so now they kill anyone living their for revenge but then the realitor puts on cracked glasses & has a vengeful look on his face & I didn't remember seeing the glasses in the movie prior to that. I don't get it. Did the house itself possess people & Jessica Harper & the realitor became the killers after the first 2 were shot?

Don't wander into abandoned churches for Czakyr will grab you from underneath the watery grave.

the realtor was the guy from the beginning with the eviction notice. that still doesnt make much sense to me though.

It seemed like a stretch. Apparently the Realtor was a survivor from the original family that was evicted, so he was part of the scheme to harass the families who bought the home. But why would he sell it to them in the first place if he wanted them out? It wasn't that great a house anyway, and I'm sure it needed a lot of repairs after the initial shootout.

it could be that he simply sold the house over and over again for the CASH man. haha.

That's been known to happen in the real-estate trade, I've been told!

reply

I think this was his connection. He was making money off of the evictors' activities; he was effectively in a symbiotic relationship with them. He was no better than the realtor in The House By The Cemetery.

reply

I think you are RIGHT ON. Great explanation.

reply

No the realtor was the actor Vic Morrow and you can see him at the beginning of the film as the 3rd guy in the house. He's the one crouching by the window and one of the things he says is something like "Don't do anything til I tell ya!"

Check Wikipedia. The story summary for the movie does a good job explaining.

reply

No, as usual, Wiki did not do a good job explaining. Olie never scuffled with Dwayne, Dwayne murdered her. Jake didn't shoot Dwayne in self-defense, Jake murdered him. And Ruth never willingly joins Jake in his continuing scam of selling his old family house, in fact, she's upset when it's revealed that he was once again selling it.

It did not come together well. 03/10

I wish Ruth hadn't married Jake!!! I was so shocked at that ending. So sad about Ben, damn!
