WHY NO DVD RELEASE YET

These are the best teen sex comedys yet they havent been released on dvd...COME ON you dvd issuers make a mint and issue them!

reply

Just go to e-bay. You should be able to get all the Popsicle Movies on DVD that have been transferred from old VHS tapes.

But you're absolutely right! This classic collection deserves to see the light of day again on legitimate shiny disc format with a truckload of extras.

I've heard that the first movie has recently been released on DVD in Germany and Japan, but there are currently no plans to do so in the UK or US.

Let's hope this changes soon!

reply

The German DVD has been released since September 2004. There is also a Box of all 8 movies of this category aviable. It's called Eis am Stiel 1-8. But it's only with german language.

reply

Does the German DVD have English subtitles?

reply

Hi, I`ve just bought the german eis am stiel box and its spoken in german and only has german subtitles. I think for people who has some hearing problems.
But the box is pure nostalgia..

reply

Damn it, that's too bad. I really wish they would release all of them on DVD here in the UK, though it's looking more and more unlikely as time goes on. I don't think my old battered video cassetes of these movies are going to last me much longer, so I'd love to have them on DVD.

No, *beep* It's for people who are learning the German language.

reply

I am wishing to buy, but it is impossible without them releasing it. I remember with nostalgia of this series, that I saw in Brazil in the early 80´s. Here it is really hard to find the ones that were released on VHS. Almost all the tapes must be damaged or the video stores already sold them.

reply

Maybe you can find them on www.amazon.com

reply

Nah so sign of them anywhere. It seems like the only way you can view them on DVD in places in the world other than Germany and Japan is through old video copies that people have transferred onto DVD. Not ideal I know, but this is about the closest you'll get to having this collection on DVD in the UK at least, and there are plenty of DVD copies for sale on e-bay.

reply

i live in holland in live on de the border to germany so i understand german spoken very good. i think you have to wait some more time before they come out in the uk

reply

who knows when they will be released on dvd officially. i obtained my set from someone on ebay in the uk. it has 8 lemon popsicle movies and also last american virgin. the copies on dvd are pretty good and the sound is not too bad. just remember that these dvd are encoded with a different region code. anyway, the quality of them is ok. at least you get to see them in their entirety and they are in english too, all of them.
the last lemon popsicle which is part 8 is called " summertime blues " . the chubby guy is not in the film at all.

reply

I purchased the Japanese DVD from yes-asia.com and it came in next to no time at all. It is region 2 coded with English language audio and a few extras. Well worth the purchase if you enjoy the flik.

reply

i have the lemon popsicle films on dvd transfered from vhs great quality aswell if u want them just email me on [email protected],cheers its the only way to get them....

reply

I Have the first 7 films on VHS and the unoffical Popsicle film "Private Manuvers". I have "The Last American Virgin" which was the American remake of the original "Lemon Popsicle" on DVD. I have been searching for the 8th film in the series "Summertime Blues Lemon Popsicle 8" but can't locate it anywhere. From everything I have heard about "Summertime Blues" it is out only in German language with no english subtitles. They are all great movies, but I think after "Baby Love Lemon Popsicle V" the series started to go downhill, however I would like to complete the whole series of this great comedy/drama series.

reply

You can get the WHOLE collection at:
http://www.laserclub.co.il

it's called: "Lemon Popsicle - The Complete Series"

Good luck, and enjoy!

reply

"the last lemon popsicle which is part 8 is called " summertime blues " . the chubby guy is not in the film at all."

That's B.S. Yudaleh (the chubby guy) IS in part 8. Momo (the womanizer) is NOT in part 6.

reply

The set the poster mentions from laserclub is a legit set, and I own it. It contains eight of the Lemon Popsicle films, with the exception of Private Manoeuvres, which was a spin-off from the Lemon Popsicle film Private Popsicle. Buy the set on eBay, though:

reply

I am from America. I don't think the DVD's or VHS from Laserclub will play on my machines. I checked out the site. and it is originally in Hebrew. Thanks for your help though.

reply

I know you're from America. I'm from Canada, where our DVD system is the same as America's. I have a DVD player that I was able to apply a code to to make it region-free, and able to play any DVD from anywhere in the world. Many players have this ability. What is the make and model of your DVD player?

There's a new german dvd edition out now which includes english audio.

reply

The second film Going Steady has now been released on DVD in the UK, but there is no sign of the others so far...

reply

I've just got the German remastered DVD box set of LP 1-8

The first movie is the only one with English audio, the others are all in German only. However the first one is TOTALLY UNCUT with extra scenes to the UK video versions and budget DVD release. All the films in the box set are widescreen and beautiful to look at.

The UK release of Going Steady looks like a VHS transfer. It is awful quality but better than nothing.

We need a box set like the German one but all in English.

Incidentally, I watched Baby Love today in German, and because I know the film inside out, it was still brilliant. Buy the box set - its worth every penny.

reply

I got the 8 disk box set for £5 on ebay second hand, the guy who sold it only watched one of the movies before passing it on.

All the other movies were still sealed.

It's not the German set though but the set they released in Israel.

Have you noticed on the first film, there's different songs in the different languages?

reply

I have a DVD i bought of Eskimo Limon in Israel... A legit copy, with english subtitle option. It is PAL format, but is coded to play in America as well. It works on my cheap dvd player, at least!

reply

Well not many people have heard of it so I dont think there is much demand for it to be released.I heard its been released in Germany and Isreal but not in NOrth America.

reply

The German box set was also released in Poland :

HAS ANYBODY CHECK THIS?
http://mtceuropavideo.com/index.htm
IT HAS A LOT OF UNRELEASED FILMS,INCLUDING THE LEMON POPSICLE SERIES.THE FIRST ONE IS STATED AS INCLUDING MAKING OF & DIRECTOR INTERVIEW.
BY THE WAY,CAN ANYBODY TELL ME HOW IS THE QUALITY OF ISRAELI DVD RELEASES?
IS SOUNDTRACK THE SAME OR ARE THERE ANY CHANGES?

reply

The re-released german boxset (NOT the first release) is the only DVD release, which contains the complete uncut version of all movies and was digitally remastered and it even comes in widescreen!!!! So buy it!!!!!!!! The hungarian DVD release is also uncut, but unfortunately not remastered. I was so disappointed about the isreal. DVD release. It's a VHS to DVD copy and utterly cut (except for part 3, which is uncut & remastered). But at least it has english subtitles and I'm glad, I got the original version on DVD anyway.

reply

the uk dvds are all uncut aswell as far as i know, i checked the bbfc website and they were passed uncut

I saw the technical details of the German boxset you mentioned. The widescreen aspect ratio is a very pleasant fact for this film since all other releases seem to be full-framed.Do you happen to know if it also includes English track?
I cannot say for sure since some ebay sellers state that it is and Amazon only mentions German audio track.
The dsappointment was with the Israeli DVD.Not only it has VHS picture quality but being cut as well? And this coming from the original country release?

reply

I bought the whole set from Ebay for £2.99 and that was with free postage, they are good quality.
