Hermann; a question
Its been 20 years since I saw this film. What happened to Hermann? I recall he took the rap for the killing of Bill. Did he go to jail or remain in the 'story'?

He went to prison for a long time; he remains in the film whenever Maria goes to visit him there. He is eventually released and goes to Canada alone. Finally he returns to Maria, moves in with her (or is about to do so) and gets blown up in a gas explosion when she lights a fag on the stove.
