What a pile of...

CRAP!!!

I am an avid horror fan and like many avid horror fans, I love it when there is a movie full of cheese and terrible gory moments.

This movie was not even a well done, bad horror...it was sooooooooo long and boring that I actually fell asleep. It's not scary and ridiculously predictable! If you like horror movies than you will hate this one! I thought it was so crap that I was actually tempted to sit through Pearl Harbour!! But this is just my opinion:-)

I am actually wondering why my responses to this thread was not deleted with so many others?

The Driller Killer is really low-budget filmmaking.

Abel Ferrara did go on and make better produced but not necessarily more coherent movies.

I would say that TCM is more enjoyable to watch than Driller Killer but maybe others prefer this dirty and gritty first effort by an NYC madman.

Hey, KillerCiao, I have to agree with you on that one. It is said to be part of the video nasties and all (if I'm not mistaken Driller Killer was a part of that too). It was cut or banned in some countries and first time I saw it I thought, what's the big deal. But I got to say that I acctually saw it again and again and after a while there was other things that interested me about it.
On another note, Franklin is a pretty whiney character as are many of the others but in the way they played them was honest and real. Not the kind of typical slasher throw-away characters that we have become so familiar with during the 80's and 90's.

That's how it is with great posts, always leaving you wanting more.

About the Driller Killer I read somewhere that Abel Ferrara made a commentary for the DVD edition. It's supposed to be hilarious.

I watched the Evil Dead when I was younger. It scared the pants off me and I loved it. So I wanted to watch every horror movie that came out. I watched Basket Case and didn't like it too much. I watched TCM and didn't find it very scary (as a kid). I eventually managed to get hold of ETN (extra terrestrial nasty) which was being touted as the "Video Nasty" version of ET at the time. Very hard to find even back then. It was crap. I wanted to watch Driller Killer, The Burning and Deadly Spawn. All were banned. All these years later I finally manage to get hold of Driller killer. It is so bad. Nothing happens in it. I also rewatched TCM. Very creepy to an adult. I was expecting more scares out of Driller Killer given its rep. How can you say that nothing happens in TCM after watching DK? In TCM we have a van load of people who are going to stay at Franklins Uncles place. They meet a crazy on the way who slices himself open and bleeds all over the van! And that's just the start. TCM has so much more going on in it than DK. All that happens in DK is a loser of a guy is irritated by loud music and kills someone (eventually). Total crap.

I think Driller Killer is more infamous for its cover, than its content. I bet in the 80's Video Nasty scare (i was born in 1984, so i dont remember it) the tabloid press where able to use that cover as an example of the "Evil corrupting videos". When you actually watch the movie, it makes modern stuff such as Scream look like Cannibal Holocaust in comparison

Driller Killer was without a doubt one of the worst films ive ever seen, did anyone else get a DVD with some guy talking at that start? He compares this film to Repulsion, i havnt seen Repulsion but ive wanted to for ages, can anyone tell me is this really what Repulsion is like? Because if so i will be avoiding it at all costs! This movie was horiible, plotholes left right and centre and fricken boring.

reply

If you mean the Roman Polanski film then you must now that it is not like Driller Killer. I don't know if there is any other Repulsion so I assume that it is Polanski's and that was surprisingly good and it is disturbing without being graphic while being scary without being cheap. It wasn't especially dated either.
Now I can sense myself having to eat my own words but I think you have to see Repulsion.

Driller Killer is a masterpiece of cinema. each scene is pure genius. for example.. when he drills the holes in the kitchen door for his girl friend and when he repeatedly runs back to drill the old guy.

oop sha-doo-by, oop sha-doo-by.

my two cents.

I saw the driller killer and hated it. But Im a sensible guy, If SO MANY PEOPLE REALLY ADMIRE THIS FILM i MIGHT watch it again, only if someone really wants to convince me that its good or i want to give it another try. But only one more. If you want to read my review of the film you can go to the new horror review website. www.strictlysplatter.com

I left that post ages ago and totally forgot about it...decided to look my username up in a google search when I saw this pop up .... oh how I laughed remembering me posting this...

And yes after reading some of your oh so inspiring posts about 'oh you are so wrong this is such an awesome movie' I have decided that I need to re-think my opinion and....
...........
............NEVER....
CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!! I will never agree with anyone that liked this film.
I have NEVER been so bored by such a pile of *beep* ahahahaha.

And to the user who brought up evil dead...good on you....if you are willing to put this pile of junk in the same genre as evil dead then you SERIOUSLY.... oh why do I even bother wasting a post on people who think threatening skull *beep* is a rebuttal.

reply

Ditapantouf, Obviously doesn't like horror movies, so why bother watching this? I think he'd be better off with a nice keanu reeves movie like 'sweet november' or something.....

reply

I thought that this movie would have been great if the made the quality of it a little better. Half the scenes you can't tell what is going on because it is dark and the lighting is really bad. But things like that made it too difficult for me to watch. I also thought that the sound quality was not good either, so I couldn't hear what they where talking about.

reply

Dita Pantouf obviously DOES like horror movies as SHE didn't like this BECAUSE it is a 3rd rate horror at best.

SHE also didn't even know what sweet november was until robertsalad brought it up....did you like it sexy?

And for the record I've no doubt that keanu could've pulled a better movie than driller killer out of his belly button lint...it's just that easy to top this movie

reply

Ooops! ok you got me there Dita! so what do you call a good horror then? Boogeyman? Ginger snaps? house of wax? - some thing for the girls, not too scary!

P.s. I've not seen sweet november either!

reply

Tis all good dahhhhling

My idea of a good horror? I really don't care what year it comes from as long as it keeps me interested. I really like the original night of the living dead for instance and then on the flipside I loved Event Horizon. I also like Pet C/Semetary or however the hell it's spelt. so basically an engaging story that is well executed.

reply

hmmm.. engaging story in a horror film! not too many of those around. However the Descent is the best horror movie since the pope started wearing a hat.

reply

Room Thirty Six.... You've got that spot on! nice description. I totally agree. people think that just because its a 'horror' movie that its not saying anything, but i think horror films are the perfect medium to show the human condition. They are a modern day oil canvass.

reply

I always thought "movie" and "film" were synonyms, esp. nowadays with dv technology. Personally, I don't look for imitation of life, much less "reality". The ideas presented through the use of images is what's important - like hieroglyphics, you know? A good director is able to place sequences of images after sequences of images, composing each frame with direct intent (like use of space and actors' placement within that space) with rhyme and reason. I thought Ferrara did this well enough in the movie to catch the idea of "frenzy," "exasperation," and "mania." I don't know what expectations people had of this movie, but mine were satisfied.

Do The Mussolini! Headkick!

reply

Event Horizon sucked ass and was a Sci-Fi film. Driller Killer was a great PSYCHOLOGICAL horror movie. I'm a BIG fan of Evil Dead, Black Christmas, and others of that type. I own over 150 different HORROR movies and I consider this a horror movie, of course it all depends on how you look at it. It's the story of a man's decent on a downwards spiral to insanity.

reply

I never remember saying that this wasn't a horror movie.....what are you arguing exactly....horror or not it's still crap and oh no you di-int just compare this to Evil Dead of Black Christmas...those were class this is just class crap;-)

reply

Total s h i t and should be burned. I AGREE YEAH!!!! Driller killer will bore the f u c k outta ya. Its the most pro longed boring horror film ive seen. Dont waste your money on this tripe!, Its total agony watching it. Fair enough you wanna get a good nights sleep, WATCH this, cuz thats the only thing its good for!

Were gonna get you..not another peeeep..time to go to sleep Happy New Year

reply

Thank you ...
good on you:D

reply

Driller Killer....met your dammed end you total sucka of a film!!!!!!!!

"Old Grandpa's the best killer there ever was!"

reply

I got this film with the box of the banned set and thought Driller Killer was crap. No script, i think they were making it up as they went along. I don't know why it was banned...maybe because it is so bad.

reply

YES! Someone else that knows what they are talking about!

"Old Grandpa's the best killer there ever was!"

reply

Haha, i've got to agree. I'm so glad it only cost me around £3, well that maybe why....

The only god thing it has going for it is a couple of ok killing scenes, like the one where he drills through the guy's skull. Although that may only look good in comparison to the rest of the film, which is very tame. I actually started laughing when he ran along and killed those two homeless people!

A visit to Dita's website makes it clear why she hated this film. She's a very beautiful post-punk model, basically a plastic Goth Barbie Doll. Nothing soulful or original in her look. It was all done, better, 20 years ago by Strawberry Switchblade and Siouxsie Sioux. Back in the 80s, the look was cutting edge. Now Dita Panouf looks like a wannabe Dita Von Teese, hoping to be discovered by her own personal Tim Burton. She could never "get" the bohemian angst flowing like a fountain in The Driller Killer because despite her artful posing she hasn't a boho bone in her pretty body. Stick with Pearl Harbor, honey. It's more you.

reply

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....kisses you too.
I'm sure Dita Von Teese would love the comparison seeing as we are from totally different genre's...I assume you made it though just cause our names are the same not because you are some art critic *still laughing*.

Darlin....feel free to criticise me but not on a movie site. I'm sure you're only boring the true movie critics on here.

reply

man, pearl harbour stunk... but then so does driller killer :P

why do so many people avidly defend and compliment movies that are rubbish, just because they have some kind of cult status? being "cult" means they fall into the realm of enjoyment for a limited group, you can't expect everyone to love it :)

reply

haha yep! People that get bored by this movie are too used to the short-attention span MTV-style editing and probably think they're into horror films cause they like the Evil Dead shirts at Hot Topic and watched a Stephen King movie on tv. I can't stand people that don't know how to appreciate oddball 70's sleaze atmosphere. Ah well, it's their loss really.

reply

Totally agree, one of the worst movies I have ever scene, and I've watched 'House of the Dead'.
