Which Mina is best?

Here are the choices -

Greta Schroeder (Nosferatu - 1922)*
Helen Chandler (Dracula - 1931)
Melissa Stribling (Horror Of Dracula - 1958)
Jan Francis (Dracula - 1979)
Winona Ryder (Bram Stoker's Dracula - 1992)
Peta Wilson (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - 2003)

What's your favourite?

*Yes, I know she's called Ellen, but it's basically the same character.

reply

Jan Francis from Dracula (1979) because it's my all time favorite Dracula movie

I think Winona's performance was good.

dracula 1979 has the scariest "Mina" with her raw dough face and blackest eyes, compare it to the matching scene in Coppola's movie with Lucy....

Coppola's= not scary... and quite tastlessly derivative.

This question is kinda messed up by the switcheroo of character names.

Anyway, the Mina in this '79 version was the scariest vision of my childhood (I saw this in the theater at 10 years old) I was literally freaked out for weeks and would sneak in my parents room at night to sleep on the floor. When I saw the movie again years later, I simply covered my eyes once she changed to monster Mina. As much as a love this version of Dracula, I never care to see that face in the cave again.

Kate Nelligan rocked the role of Lucy (the real Mina) in this movie and was very attractive. I even felt that way as a prepubescent male when I first saw this movie. So yeah, she's my favorite.

I know she was not listed among the choices, but my vote would have to go to Judi Bowker in the BBC's "Count Dracula" with Louis Jourdan. It helped that this Mina was the closest to Stoker's, but Judi made a wonderful heroine-in-peril.

Greta Schroeder, Melissa Stribling and Jan Francis (she is more Lucy than Mina in someways).

I agree that Judi Bowker is the best Mina. (Jan Francis' character was named Mina, but her part was the Lucy role).

Judi Bowker was both a beautiful potential prey to Dracula as well as being capable in her own right. (In the climactic fight with Dracula's Szekely bodyguard, she kills one with a single rifle shot, saving Jonathan's life).

Another vote for Judi Bowker, omitted from the OP!

Peta Wilson from The League of Extraordinary Gentleman was the best Mina for me (Judi Bowker was all right as Mina).

Quite so. Judi Bowker was not only the best Mina by far, but the 1977 BBC effort was a masterpiece as well.

I've only seen the 79 and 92 version. And out of those two, I liked Jan the most. :]

Jan Francis.

Winona Ryder had a few wooden moments as Mina.
