Not too hot...bummer

After never getting to see this film as a kid, I finally watched it this week on DVD. It's too bad this film was "reformatted" as a SF-horror vehicle instead of the straight-up horror film it should be. The decapitation scene with the bar @sshole was great — all that other crap with "laser beam eyes" was stupid. And why does Mr. Dark look twenty feet tall in that one scene? All you see are his towering legs after the girl flees. Then Devane does him in by turning him into a torch. Wow, that wasn't TOO hard, was it? Too bad they wasted all those bullets.

This film had a lot of potential. Devane's look was cool, too. I don't think I've seen him elsewhere with hair that long. Cathy Lee Crosby isn't exactly a babe, but they could've done worse.

This will sound like heresy to some, but 1983's The Being is a more entertaining film!

I disagree, I think it's fantastic!

It combines some over the top effects (like when a policeman is hurled into the air and disintegrated by the laserbeams) with a nice, creepy atmosphere. It's also got the 70's written all over it... A psychic accientally outing an gay actor with her powers, what can you say?

The film does show that the monster was redefined in production, but it's still a compentent production, and there's this crazy style to the whole film that just I love.

the soundtrack was great!

Hooper's over-the-top Lifeforce is a favourite of mine. would be god to have seen his original take on this when it was still a zombie flick
