How about a region 1 dvd release?

It's time this movie is released on dvd. Give it a low price, and it should sell. I collect disaster movies on dvd, and would like to add this to my collection.

I too would gladly buy a copy of this fun disaster flick on Region 1 DVD.

Nobody does W.C. Fields singing "Mama Told Me Not to Come" better than Paul Frees.

"City On Fire" is available on DVD in Germany (VHS rip with NO ENGLISH AUDIO, unusual for a German release of an English-language film) and Spain (another VHS-sourced copy, with English audio but absolutely horrible video/audio quality with seemingly-random edits). If you dig around you can find VHS rips on DVD (with all the quality problems you'd expect from deteriorating tape) but I too would love to see a decent R1 DVD release.

All I have is the MST 3K version.

i agree I as well collect disater movies on dvd,,,,have u heard if it is gonna b released,,this is quite a good movie,,,,did you get when time ran out

I haven't heard anything concerning a DVD release. I contacted the film's director, Alvin Rakoff, about a year ago and he said he didn't have any information. I don't think he has any control over this movie, and he didn't mention who owns it.

I can't imagine why this one isn't out yet on DVD! Many people have seen this movie when it was featured on "Mystery Science Theater 3000," and of course it would sell to those who collect disaster movies, action movies, etc. One of the film's top selling points is its cast: Henry Fonda, Ava Gardner ("Earthquake," "The Cassandra Crossing,"), Shelley Winters "(The Poseidon Adventure,"), etc. It would sell if it were given a decent price.

In the meantime there are some decent quality, uncut bootleg copies floating around. I hate to say that, but it's all a part of reporting the news on this movie.

I haven't picked up "When Time Ran Out" yet. I will! Eventually it will go "out of print," and then it'll be much harder to find. Other disaster-themed movies I'd like to get are "Krakatoa: East Of Java," "The Hindenburg," "A Night To Remember," "St. Helens," "Gray Lady Down," and "The Crowded Sky."

City on Fire(1979) is a difficult disaster movie to find. Unlike The Poseidon Adventure(1972) and Earthquake(1974), this film was produced independently outside of Hollywood. City on Fire(1987) is also a Hong Kong crime drama starring Chow Yun Fat. It was remade as Reservoir Dogs(1992).

I've seen clips of the film on You Tube. In one scene, a brunette in a green robe is set on fire as she gets to close to a fire truck!

"WUURROOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRROOOO......."

Poor Shelley Winters is killed in the film by a piece of flaming debris! Leslie Nielson is in it, too. In Airplane!(1980), he was in a spoof of disaster movies!

"I am serious...and don't call me 'Shirley'!"

Some UHF TV stations showed City on Fire in the 1980's.

The funny thing is I've had a late 80s HBO recording of this for decades! I had no idea a film this bad was this rare (comes off as a glorified TV-movie with a couple pieces of extraneous profanity and a gross-out moment of a surgeon making an incision to justify its R rating).
