Remake in the works...

The word is that the rights to the original script, "The Silent Flute" has been recently retained by a producer, and that it should be made as if Bruce Lee was alive today, even if he or James Coburn would'nt be in it.
Jerry Poteet, who was one of Bruce Lee's original Jeet Kune Do students in the 1960's is said to be designing the fights.

Anybody have any ideas who should be in it, and how it should be approached for today's audiences?

I'd think Jet Li would be the current obvious choice for the Bruce Lee part.

Best go for a talented unknown (and yes, he could easily be non-Western) for the Cord part.

Alternately, if you wanted to make a blockbuster out of it, the other choice for Cord would be Jason Statham. That does seem like it would be a very good choice but runs the risk of production idiots ruining the picture by failing to get the point of it at all.

Nice casting...yeah, the first person to jump to mind for Carradine's characters was Jet. I don't think there is a martial arts actor out there that could do any better. I was kind of struggling with who to play Cord, but I think you nailed it. Stathem and Li have a great history & chemistry. As I commented on your other post, I saw Silent Flute when it was first released, and I don't think it should be recreated in the same mood as the original, with Stathem & Li, I think we can go a little darker. And you're right, the big risk here is some Hollyweird douchenozzle turns this into some sort of comic book movie.

And, ok, maybe I'm missing something. I own this on DVD, and I'm hearing all this talk about CGI Lee & Colburn? Ok, so you know the back story, Lee wrote the story--not the script--and Colburn helped get it produced. Neither were in, nor supposed to be in, the film. As far as Segall or Norris, are you out of your mind? Talk about an insult to Lee. Jet Li is the ONLY one out there right now with the physical & acting skills to take on Carradine's roles--have you SEEN Danny the Dog?--and Stathem, while far darker than the Cord in the original film (where did people get the idea that was supposed to be Colburn?)could pull off the wandering seeker well. I can just see the scene of the Blind Monk asndCord eating the fruit, played out by Jason & Jet.

Statham has presence but doesn't have the acting range to carry the role off. The best choice for the role of Cord would be Scott Adkins. As far as the Carradine role goes, I think Jackie Chan would be a better choice (now that he's aged nicely).

Just do a CGI of Lee and Coburn, like they wanted. *beep* Stateman and Jett.
If I write a movie with my characters I want MY characters. I would not want it to live on the backs of others.

There is enough stock footage of Lee and Coburn to do a VERY realistic CGI fleshed out version that would require a disclaimer at the begining telling the audiance that they actors did not take part in the movie.

Wow, you want this to be more of a P.O.S. than the people who suggested Jason Statham and Jet Li. I'd say that Donnie Yen would be best for any part close to Bruce Lee, as Donnie Yen is a true Bruce Lee fan.
But other than that, I wouldn't really say a remake is needed, just let it die. Something like this wouldn't be appreciated now anyways, so I just say let it be.

This is my favorite Carradine flick!!!

DAMMIT!!! NO MORE REMAKES!! Whatever happened to the CREATIVITY of Hollywood??

I'm sick of the "writers', who don't actually do much of anything anymore, taking my favorite movies and remaking them into disaster-pieces.

And the idiots they cast in the roles can't act their way out of a wet paper bag with a chain-saw.

I flatly refuse to watch another remake-regardless of the movie or whoever they cast in it!

Make Hollywood actually WORK for a living!!

This is not a Carradine flick, it is Bruce Lee's project. Carradine was not a true martial artist but just a Hollywood clone of what a martial artist should be in their eyes.Just imagine what the Kung Fu series would have been like with Bruce in it. He actually made and proved himself in the Green Hornet series so that should have been enough to secure that role.

I also enjoy some of his movies, especially when he gets his ^%$# kicked by Chuck Norris in Lone Wolf McQuade. Chuck is a much better martial artist than Carradine ever was, Chuck also has the same ideals as Bruce and his work amongst troubled youth is a true credit to him. Chuckhad a rough upbringing and he used those experiences to help the youith ahve a better life through martial arts. this what martial art s is about.

Even Steve Seagal would be a better candidate to star in the remake as his martial spirit shines in his work.

To fully know what martial spirit is you must have some martial arts training. It is not all violence but becoming more aware and mentally tuned through the martial spirit. Once you have studied a martial art and apply it to every day life you will understand what the martial art can do for you.

I am a very sick human at the moment but my posiitve attitude gained through the martial gives nme a positive attitude and the courage to fight of my illness. I have been diagnosed with Myeloma and I need to maintaina a positive attitude to life instead of succumbing to the fact I may be fighting a losing battle but I guarantee I will triumph no matter the cost.

If this gets going be assured HOLLYWOOD will find an unknown WHITE actor to play the lead role and other WHITE actors to play major roles with Asian males playing minor one dimensional roles and hot Asian women playing hot roles.

GIVE THIS TO ROBERT RODRIGUEZ!!!!

A 'caucasion' actor NEEDS to play the lead role, that's what Bruce Lee intended. Read the script...it's about the West meets the East.

Toni Jaa....or the Australian guy that played Big Bear in Ong Bak.

William Shatner or Steven Seagal as Zetan

Jackie Chan as The Blind Man, and Will Smith's kid as Cord is probably what we'll get.
