The scene where Wilford Brimly's character defends Jack Godell, was a little hard to believe. In real life, the company would have hustled him out of there, before he could talk to anyone.
Gibson, the public relations guy, tries to stop Spindler, but Spindler shakes him off. With all the media there with their cameras, it would have looked pretty bad to see a bunch of security guys try to carry Spindler away just for talking to the media.
It happens quickly too, and up to then Spindler had been a loyal, obedient "company man." Gibson had no reason to think that Spindler would act that way.
