Classic plot hole

At the beginning of the movie, when Gibson shows the crew around the plant, at some point they complain that it's too dark and too loud to film in there, so he says he's got something BETTER for them and takes them to the control room gallery - only to tell them they cannot film in there!

I remember them saying that and then forgot about it. Maybe they stopped somewhere along the way before reaching that area.

Gibson specifically said that they couldn't film from the angle facing the control room. I'm pretty sure he was going to let them film him, just against a different backdrop.

I think there's been a rape up there!

reply

Goofy is correct.

He says "you can't film in that direction".

Like your OFFICE quote by the way.

"To love another person is to see the face of God"

Yeah, but that would make it an awfully boring location, so why does he say he has a better filming location only to take them to a place where they cannot film anything worthwhile?

Because, for the plot to work, the TV crew somehow has to get to the control room gallery to (illegally) capture the accident on film.

This piece of dialogue was poorly written.

"Bill we can't film here, it's too dark to see anything." - "Okay, I got a better idea anyway. I think you'll like it."

[...]

"Oh, I'm sorry, we can't film in that direction for obvious security reasons."

"So why did you take us here? To film the water fountain??? F-U!!!"

I think the point is that they'll certainly like to see the control room (and he definitely likes showing it off), but the plant guide should not have suggested it as a response to their complaint that they couldn't "film in here". These lines should have been omitted, and they should have just cut to the elevator taking them to the gallery.

I would hardly call that a plot hole if it was anything. But how do you know they hadn't already gone to some other place, or were on there way to something different? Eventually he would've shown them the control room as a standard highlight of any tour of the facility.

The term "plot hole" has to be the most overused thing I've seen out here.

Because he says he's got something better, takes them to the elevator, and the elevator takes them right to the control room. No apparent time lapse. Also, it's pretty obvious he's talking about the control room when he promises something better for filming.

And it's THEIR, not THERE.

Yes, it's a highlight for watching, but not for filming. I've seen the movie a thousand times and this is a cool observation because it makes no sense no matter how you twist it.

"We can't film in here," ... takes them to ... "we can't film in here."

Hahaha!

Your post is just a classic misunderstanding of the definition of "plot hole".

It's amazing but it seems that freaking 98% of the "plot hole!" posts on IMDB are not even close to being plot holes.

reply

Well, but can you explain it away? So far, nobody could.

Check out the guy's post history. The thing about Juggernaut. It's amazing! Who cares if people call it a "plot hole" or whatever kind of "goof"? I saw that movie too and it never occurred to me how stupid the ending is.

I don't recall him saying: "it's too dark and too loud to film in there". I do remember him saying that they could not film in the control room. If he did say it then I suppose he also could have meant that he could technically film in there as long as he didn't film the workers. Perhaps he could mean don't film them dead on. Either way, taking out "it's too dark and too loud to film in there" could have been taken out and he could have said "let's go TALK in the control room".
