Oscar Nominee?

Did anyone else think it was bizarre that Marsha Mason actually received an Oscar nomination for her performance in a film where she is basically playing herself?

reply

I'd say she was overplaying herself, but she probably knows herself better than I do.

reply

It doesn't matter if she was playing herself or not, she was terrific in the role, especially with her monologue in the house towards the end.

reply

Yes, I agree. Marsha was great in this part and certainly earned the Oscar nomination. I've always enjoyed her acting, no matter what role she is playing.

reply

I find it bizarre that MM got 4 Oscar nods for the giving the same performance;
witness her other shrill showcases:Cinderella Liberty, Audrey Rose, The Goodbye Girl and Only When I Laugh.

reply

She wasn't nominated for Audrey Rose.

reply

He or She didn't say she was nominated for Audrey Rose. They were just pointing to that film as an example of a shrill performance.

reply

Thank you, fchilds
Her non-nominated performance in Audrey Rose is identical to the ones she garnered 4 Oscar nods for. At least Audrey Rose is more diverting than Chapter Two.
