Get that girl a Cheeseburger!!

Am I the only one who thought Valerie Harper looked absolutely anorexic in this film? Harper had always been diet conscious especially after she had that first big weight loss during her run on THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, but she lost even more for this film and IMO, she went too far. She just looks unhealthy in this film. Any thoughts?

reply

Other people had thought the same.

It was disturbing to watch Valerie Harper in this movie. She looked painfully thin and it distracted me each time she was on screen. A shame, because I was looking forward to her being in it.

Just caught this film last night and had the same thought. Valerie Harper looked anorexic in this film it was quite disturbing.

reply

I'd say yes except she's all muscle.

reply

I had the exact same thoughts. She was ridiculously thin.

30 years ago I thought she looked scarey thin, but I was accustomed to seeing her as Rhoda at the time. Just saw the movie the other night on TCM and I thought she looked good....and I'm a gay man. That swimsuit, that's cut very high on the thigh.....wow! Good for her!

In case anyone cares, she's appearing on Broadway this spring in a comedy called Looped. It tells the story of Tallulah Bankhead having to loop a line of dialogue for the 60's camp-fest Die! Die My Darling.

Sounds hysterical to me but I can't imagine Valerie Harper doing Tallulah's voice.

reply

I disagree. She had some guns on her. That scene where she was wrapped in the towel most of time really showed them off. She must have been hitting the gym a lot. Very attractive.

Calish is correct. Valerie had a professional trainer named Tony Cacciotti. They soon fell in love and to this day they are married 28 years and together for 36. Who says romance is dead in the movies? (That was the final line of the final episode of Rhoda, delivered by Rhoda herself to her sister Brenda and their mom Ida.)

reply

Well, she's dying of brain cancer now, so I guess it doesn't really matter how she looked in this film.
