Sienfeld

Since nobody else posted on this, I thought that I would mention the sienfeld episode "The Letter" where Jerry's girlfriend that painted "The kramer" writes a letter to Jerry directly plagarizing Marsha Mason's words in this film. I had never heard of the film so I looked it up on here. Anyway, great episode of Seinfeld!

It's kind of interesting. It starred James Caan and must have been known enough at the time of the Seinfeld episode for them to reference it so heavily. The references (like calling Jerry's girlfriend Marsha Mason...who???) got laughs from the audience. But very few people on the internet - including me - seem to know it exists.

560 user ratings for a James Caan movie. That's SO low. Yeah obviously the internet is more popular with the young, but still, I've seen my share of 1979 movies and I was around all through the '80s when this was probably playing on TV. And didn't ring the slightest bell. It's just strange and surprising (a little).

I'm gonna guess it's in a genre that took a huge beating in popularity. From the description it sounds very melodramatic. Seems like people just stopped caring about that kind of thing around the time MTV appeared on the scene. A generational changing of the guard where the waning segment of the mainstream who still loved theater died out and were replaced by arcade junkies. Or maybe I'm just talking out my ***.

Never would have heard of Chapter Two if not for Seinfeld, but when I saw the DVD in the library I just laughed and checked it out immediately - then I kept waiting for the 'I offer happiness, it's James Caan who doesn't offer happiness' moment - overall a nice movie - a little melodramatic for a comedy, but it had some funny moments and Caan & Marsha Mason were good - Thanks to the power of Seinfeld for keeping this hidden movie alive - George to Jerry - 'So how are things between you and Marsha Mason?' - Ha.

I've seen the episode many times. Just finished watching it again on Hulu. Great episode! Is there anywhere to watch Chapter Two itself?
