I'm sorry but this movie wasn't that good

In my opinion the relationship between the boy and his father was really weird. I didn't see them as father and son. I just didn't believe it (have other people have that experience?). And then there's the acting of Billy....really really bad. John Voigt is a good actor now but in this movie i didn't believe him. That's why i didn't have to cry, i didn't feel for him. For example the scene where he sees his boy again after going to prison. OMG i have never seen a less believable performance.

Sure the last scene was sad. And the boy can act, and cries believable. And that's a good thing because he cries about 80% of the time in this movie.

I think thats some of the reasons it only gets a 6.1. And even that is too high.

Hearts of stone the both of u. You should be ashamed of yourselves. A simple movie that has genuine emotion and you start having a go at the acting? Run away and watch transformers or something. A classic movie that will never leave my collection

When a story is not supported by the other elements that surround a movie, it won't be as effective. I've seen better done dramas in countless occasions, just check the top 250 for some examples, even a lot of them are older than this movie here.

Just because a film is not in imdb's 250 list, doesn't mean its not great.

There are some utterly shocking films on that list that will never again be viewed on my tv.

What elements don't support the story? Not saying its a perfect film (theres no such thing anyway), but the story itself is a simple one so I don't see what elements you speak of that could hinder the plot bearings.

An excellent film that would be in my top 100, never mind 250.

Jon Voight was a great actor then. Midnight Cowboy, Deliverance, Runaway Train to name a few.
