Licking the newborn offspring....

I love this movie but, I've always wondered why Cronenberg had Nola licking them in such a sexual way???? And know it was Samantha Eggar's idea about licking them, but why did DC let the licking look so sexualized?? 😖😖😖😖 Countless animals lick their newborn babies clean. But none of them do it in that manner LMAO. Animal mothers are all business when it comes to keeping their kids clean. I'm wondering why that artistic choice was made. I always cringe during that part. I guess it was to make the scene even more horrific than it would have been if she just licked them in a "normal" way maybe?? 😝😝😝😝
