watched again on Criterion

Solid movie. Good acting, controlled directing. Increased in value compared to many horror flicks of today. And I used to have the same happy days lunch box that appears in the film.

More so than his shorts or race car picture, the Cronenberg scene cinstruction and confident camera placement arrive in The Brood.

I agree completely. But don't you agree this movie is more science fiction than horror.

It's quite grotesque as well and I'm usually not into grotesque, but its unique spin on wicked witches and their flying monkeys makes for an oddly compelling film.

Much of Cronenberg's early work is considered "body horror" even if there are scifi elements as in The Fly.

Ehh... I think it's just over the line of horror.
On a basic level, it's formula boils down to deformed children killing people.
It's like a slasher film in that regard.

I love all of Cronenberg's movies on Criterion. The Brood was one I'd been waiting for for a while.
