My Thoughts...***Possibl e Spoilers***

I've read about this film for a long time and was very curious about it despite all of the negative reviews. So eventually I purchased a copy of this film to see for myself and it does make for some interesting viewing. Yes, the film makes little sense and the "Snuff film" sequences don't belong. If it weren't for those, I believe this film would have gotten just a plain PG rating. The film suffered badly because of a bad script obviously because as I said before, it made no sense in several places. I've yet to read Sidney Sheldon's novel so I don't know what was really intended. I also believe the film's editing wasn't that good ether.

The films good points were an amazing cast doing the best they could with what little they had. Thinking about the story, it is a suspenseful "whodunit". Each of the Roffe company characters had a motive for committing the murder of Sam Roffe. With that alone, the film could have succeeded if it focused on that. The film was aesthetically pleasing with the terrific cinematography of the great Freddie Young who made the best of a terrible film, and the set pieces were good as well. The haunting music of Ennio Morricone is terrific. I owned the soundtrack before I owned the film so I was able to enjoy the score before I saw the movie.

All in all, the film isn't the worst movie ever made. One might even say that this movie is so bad, it's good. It has good points if you care enough to look for them, but that means having to tread through a lousy story. Watch the movie if you must.
