What is you favorite scene in this movie?

My favorite is when Alec and "The Black" ride along the beach.

Yea I really liked that scene too. I also liked the scene where Alec is gettin Black to come into the water so he can try to mount Black and it only shows the feet under water. I think that scene is really pretty.

When The Black attacked the garbage men and ran throughout the city.

Yeah, i love that bit too, especially when he jumps over the pile of wooden crates, so awesome!

My favourite scene/s would have to be at the end when he comes from behind & starts to overtake the two leading horses in the race, i love watching how that boy stays on the horse, its amazing cos hes pretty small! :-)

The scene you mentioned. The music to it was so stirring. I could almost see Alexander the Great and Bucephalus!

I'd have to agree with chachaitea, my favorite scene in the movie is the race. The fact that there is no musical score and all you hear is the thundering hooves and breathing of The Black, brings me to tears everytime I see it.

I love it after Alex feeds the black for the first time and him and black are playing on the beach and then he stops to watch the sunset and hug him I literally cry my eyes out when that part comes on only because I love my horse so much :-)

I love the whole sequence with Alec and the Black on the beach as they swin and run through the water. The cinematography is stunning and brilliant.

I just got done watching this movie tonight.

This was one of my childhood favorite films. I'm 33, so I was about 3 or 4 when this movie came out and I saw it many times on HBO in the early / mid 80's.

I'm sure I haven't seen it for 20 years

It was with some trepidation that i watched it.... Theres always that bit of fear with a childhood favorite movie, b/c what if it is terrible?? Then that just smashes a bit of an old dream. Looking back, I often had crap taste as a child! :)

I must say, what a pleasant surprise!!!

What a wonderful movie.

I think my favorite scene is with the cobra on the island. There was no specific foreshadowing that the horse would do that, and it would have been a very scary incident for the boy. I like how the story revolved around these two saving each other, over and over.

I watched the movie again, partially just to see that scene. Wanted to see if it lived up to my memories. And it did..... and the rest surpassed :)

I have several favorite scenes...the first time Alec and the Black ride on the beach; the race, and the scene that makes me cry from joy - the end where the Black and Alec are rolling in the sand. That scene paired with the beautiful score is so amazing! I know it's a movie with trained human and animal actors but to see boy and that magnificent horse roll around together is breath-taking!

Thank you for this, rmgrinch.

Rmgrinch, you took the words right out of my mouth. I love the closing credit sequence of Alec and the Black just being together. Rolling in the sand is so ordinary, I guess, but at the same time it is perfectly beautiful. And they're so happy! People use the word "awesome" all the time these days, but that footage really does inspire genuine awe.

I love all the above, well the whole film, of course. I agree about the bit when they cut from the race to flash- backs of the Island. To mention a different one, I love it when The Black is trotting and galloping up and down the beach, and Alex is comparing him to the little statue of Bucephalus his Dad gave him the night of the storm. I Cry every time when the credits at the end show how happy they where on the Island. And I love the scene when Alex tries to explain to his Mum how much he loves Black, because he had saved him from drowning...

I hate to be cliched, but I love the ending. When the Black has caught the other two horses during the race, and the shot tilts down to show his shadow on the track, the haunting music rises ever so slightly and then the fade back to the island with the image of the Black reflecting off the wet sand. Then the shot of the Boy and the horse riding on the beach moving past the camera as the racing crowd noise fades up, then the cut to the Black crossing the finish line, winning the race. Truly inspired film making.

Then a few seconds later they show the boy and horse back on the island again, showing a closeup of the Black's hooves splashing up water, creating the image of wings on his hooves. I wonder if "Chariots of Fire" stole this imagery for their beach running sequence? Hmmm. It was just a couple years later.

I have two favorites. One is, of course, them riding and playing on the beach.

The other is while Henry is goofing around, bow-legged and stiff-backed, while Alec rides around him. It's shortly after the practice session with the saddled hay bale. It's just such a Mickey Rooney moment.

When Clarence Muse told Alec they was something strange about the horse and he should not ride it. Muse died soon after filming the movie...He was on the screen a short time but I really liked his "natural" acting.
