Anybody seen this?

If so how was it?

reply

Yes, a couple of days ago (after many years). It was interesting, an unconventional Disney movie.

It's not as bad as some would lead you to believe.

At the cinema when it came out (I was 12). I enjoyed it then.

best disney film ever!

Just watched it again... had been a couple years. I think it's a great flick.

Pros: Visually it's quite stunning. The Cygnus ship was a great design, with a very gothic and eerie look to it. I thought some of the shots (the fireball and Dante's inferno hell ending for Reinhardt especially) look tremendous. The music set a great tone. Maximilian Schell dives into the role. As a kid Maximillian scared the hell out of me, and as an adult I can see why.

Cons: I don't think much other casting worked at all, and shoehorning in VINCENT and BOB for the kids really didn't balance the feel for the rest of the movie.

I saw it in a movie theater when I was a kid. I have it on VHS and watch it once in a while.

It's a good movie. Give it a watch!

I watched it when I was 16. Even at that age I was disappointed with the script and set design.

I read Alan Dean Foster's novelization prior to watching the film. As with any book, I was able to imagine my own design of the world including what the robots looked like. So you can imagine how disappointed I was in the childish designs of Bob, Vincent and Maximilian.

At least they did not ruin a good book like they did with Escape to Witch Mountain.
