Rolling Meteorite

I totally forgot about this scene, such a great visual image of a glowing red meteorite rolling towards you about to run over our heroes. It was such a good visual it was lifted by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for the beginning of the Raiders of the Lost Ark with Indy being chased by a giant boulder.

So had I until just now. That is a fantastic scene, the effect was fantastic (in my memory) anyway I wonder if it still holds up today? Must look it up on youtube.

It was an impressive scene. Did Lucas and Spielberg really steal it?

The Black Hole came out in 1979 and Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed in 1980 and released in 1981. So I would say it's pretty obvious they were inspired by it and reimagined the scene for Indiana Jones.

The rolling meteorite scene looks sensational and still holds up to this day. You can see it at 4:50 in this video (if you ignore the awful music) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJ0X46mUfiw&t=4m50s.

I think visually it was also inspired by the scene in Gone in the Wind when Rhett leads his horse and carriage through the burning remains of Atlanta: https://i1.wp.com/www.inherited-values.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/gone-with-the-wind-fire-scene.jpg
