They should totally RE-IMAGINE The Black Hole

I think the fact they could make a movie with a spaceship on the edge of The Black Hole is a fantastic idea. Yes, they'd have to dump the original story, which seemed like it was taken from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

I don't even think The Black Hole itself has to be the only major plot point of the movie. Maybe have 2 or more spaceships orbiting around along with a few probes and robots and there's a ton of possibilities. It takes a lot of work writing a script but it certainly could be done.

It's already been done. It was called Event Horizon. Making a brand new movie with such ideas is fine, but if you are going to call it The Black Hole and claim it is a new take o the old film, then you have to stay true to at least some aspects of the original story.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

It seemed Event Horizon tried to borrow from a lot of different sci-fi and horror movies and it was a hot mess.

Funny side story: I was stationed in Japan early 1998 and I tried numerous time to rent Event Horizon at the Air Base video store. Nobody really knew much about the movie and the box cover was very cool. There was only one copy and you could rent it out for 2-3 days at a time..After a couple of weeks of trying/not succeeding I entered the store and finally saw the box cover on the back shelf, I raced to get it but at the last second a guy grabbed it and I was out of luck once again! Where was blockbuster with their 13 copies when you needed them? Finally, I lucked out about a week later, rented the movie and took it home. I don't think I made it pass the first hour and I returned it and to this very day I've never seen the movie in it's entirety.

"Event Horizon" wasn't that bad. However, it suffered from really, really poor editing IMHO. I enjoyed the haunted house feel and over-the-top performances from every single member of the cast. It was campy but scary at the same time.

As you mentioned, it was sort of a mash-up of several different ideas that had preceded it, like "Hellraiser," "The Black Hole," "The Sentinel," "Poltergeist," etc...

I watch it every couple years just for the yuks.
