Should have been named 'The Plot Hole'

I don't exactly HATE this movie, but the plotholes are right in your face.

Let me get this straight.
Reinhardt secretly built Maximillian to control the sentry robots in case the crew would try to go against him.
Then he somehow managed to build a machine in the medical facility that could turn the crew into mindless drones, and he even had cloaks and masks lying around to put on them.

I get he was a mad scientist, but there is no way he could have planned all this from the beginning and manages to carry it out by himself. Someone must have noticed him building a giant killer robot and asked him wtf he was doing.

Also you want me to believe that the sentry robots could take out a crew of at least 50 people? Those things were like the drop-outs from the Stormtrooper Academy.

Does the book offer a better explanation?

It all sounds possible to me . Evil Mad scientists are very resourceful
Hitler took over most of Europe from a starting position of disgruntled painter.

Reinhardt was already captain of the ship.
He probably started saying Maximillian was a lifting robot for the warehouse.
