another really good spinster movie is "RACHEL, RACHEL" with joanne woodward. it is not really suspenseful or scary, but there are a couple of really good scenes that capture the lonliness and isolation of living that kind of life. there are also some similarities like rachel lives with her mother who is not as horrible, but just as suffocating as louise's dad is. one more good spinster movie is "THE HOUSEKEEPER" with rita tushingham.

Rachel Rachel is a fine film. Both Woodward and Estelle Parsons did great in it.

Haven't seen the Housekeeper though, but Tushingham is great, so I'll look it up.

I've seen la Cermony - didn't know it was a remake of that, didn't know Chabrol was the type to do remakes.
