Apocalypse Now

I watched this movie (Apocalypse Now) last night and I really liked it!!! The cast was great: Marlon Brando, Robert Duval, Martin Sheen, Lawrence Fishburn, Dennis Hopper and Harrison ford were a great cast! Unfortunately, at the last scene (SPOILES!!) Mrtin sheen Kills Marlon Brando! Still I highly recommend this movie!!

What's your issue with Sheen killing Brando? It had to be done, and the scene was filmed, acted, and edited brilliantly. Not to mention the perfect choice of music. Couldn't ask for a much better ending sequence, to be honest.

One of the most epic endings ever. The horror…

👍👍👍

Almost makes me want to watch the movie now…

I’ll tell you what makes the film for me. It’s the narration of Willard’s thoughts as they travel further up river, especially while he’s reading Kurtz’s file. It’s just perfect.

But yeah, just talking about it makes me want to go for a rewatch too. 👍

I loved the soundtrack and the overall surreal, tripped out madness that the film captured.

I still haven't gotten around to watching the Final Cut version yet, but I'll get there.

YES. I'm not always a fan of voice-over narration, but it's absolutely essential in Apocalypse Now. Without it, Willard's character (and the film itself) would be rather incomprehensible. The writing of the narration is obviously great, but Sheen's voice and meditative delivery really put it over the top.

I love that early line: "Shit... Charging a man with murder in this place was like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500."

Somehow, the intensity and intrigue only continues to increase as they travel up the river. Such an awesome journey.

Agreed. I find that Sheen’s voice over narration is probably the most effective example in film I’ve seen. Also, as the “intensity and intrigue” increase up River so does the pounding of the score. Everything about it is amazing.

So many great lines in this movie, like: "We cut 'em in half with a machine gun and give 'em a Band-Aid. It was a lie."

reply

I like the very first line of the movie: "Saigon. Shit. I'm still only in Saigon."
