Could this be the best movie ever?

I know this is a tall order, I actually agree that Citizen Kane is probably the best movie simply because it's a huge cinematic leap from what was before. Almost 40 years after Citizen Kane, Apocalypse Now also seems like a huge cinematic leap. The cinematography, the music, score, sounds, along with the fantastic acting from so many well known and well, not so well known actors. The scene at the Do Lung Bridge is so eerie and fantastic I can't help but watch it over and over again, seeing and/or hearing something new each time. I don't even know how Coppola did it, he never hit this high of a water mark again.

I definitely give this movie a 10/10 but the best movie ever made?

Best movie ever? It’s a matter of opinion, but this certainly was great. However, the original theatrical release was much better than the directors cut and other re-edits. It’s hard to find. They should not have changed anything from the original release version.

Hard to find? I don't know about streaming, but on physical media it was just released once again with the other two cuts (Redux and the so called Final cut).

I agree the original version is the only version that's great. The French Plantation scene in the other version(s)was ridiculous.

Nope. An incredibly boring film.

reply

No. Citizin Kane and AN are equally overrated.

It's definitely in the top 50 movies of all time.

The first 20 minutes are good. Then it becomes a fantasy S show. Who knows what it’s about. But it’s not Vietnam.

When I first saw the movie, many years ago, I had it as my number one pick for many years. But many other great films have come along since then. I'd still put it in my top 100, probably, although I haven't got all those enumerated yet, so that's a guess at this point.

I am referring to the original cut, not to the extended versions, which are too long for my taste.

No.

It certainly ranks among my top ten favorites of all time, without a doubt.
