I can see my ships come in
but we met alot a friends along the way
It was fraid and it was mendin,
it was almost never endin,

Now that we made it, we made it to the top,
Now that we made it ,we aint never gonna stoppppp,
We made some friends along the way.....

Pretty close...

There's gonna be a celebration
We can see our ship's come in
But we met some competition on the way
It was tirin' it was testing
It was almost neverending
And we all pulled through and won the accolades

chorus is easy...

second verse (not the same as the first, well... same rhythmic pattern)

We fought a long and lonely battle
And we lost some on the way
But the time has come to hold our heads up high
We had to beat em and defeat em, but we never had to cheat 'em
We're the champions, we made it all the way.

Someone was trying to convert the vinyl album into a CD... I wonder what happened with that.

HOLY CRAP! I remember my parents taped (yes, taped) this for me off of HBO waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the 80's and I damn near wore out the tape watching it. I almost forgot about this flick until I was reading about Gilda Radner on WikiPedia. Believe me, the memories came flooding back when I started reading about it. If this EVER comes out on DVD, I must own it.

my memories of this film were that it was outstanding... watched it on youtube the other day and actually found myself cringing, a great bit of nostalgia but be prepared to be dissapointed this time round.

Wish it was mushrooms, fried onion rings......

reply

Only mildly dissapointed, still enjoyable. Personally I loved the scenes with Kit and Renee just as much now as I did when I was a child. Yeah Im not a child anymore but if you loved it then you can appreciate it now.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

reply

Why would it make you cringe? I just watched it for the first time in about 15 years and it is as good as it ever was. It has great character designs, a very high standard of animation, and one of the best voice casts in the history of animated features. And how can you not love a film with lines like: "He started life as a handbag. Was told he'd never walk again."

I remember back when Disney channel was good they showed this movie one night and I stayed up all night watching it and loved it!

I watched it the other week and it was pretty much as I remembered it (I haven't seen it in full for about 20 / 25 plus years! Though I do recall a repeat on BBC1 in the early 90s, where I caught some of it. I was at my mother's house and she said "remember when we rented this?!". Only thing was I thought that some of the songs weren't as good but 'We've Made It To The Top' was still great.

I had totally forgotten about this movie, but I was flipping through the free movies from On Demand and there it was! I felt like such a dork, watching some cartoon with my b.f., but it brought back memories. I remember watching this a couple of times.

I just saw it on YouTube as well! I can't believe it! Thanks so much to the guy who posted the entire thing. I have seen it so many times when I was younger. I wore out my tape from the repeated viewings. I haven't seen it in maybe 20 years but I remember all the jokes, songs, and characters. LOVE IT!!! "Born to Lose" "Made It to the Top" are fantastic songs.

Bolt Jenkins is hysterical by the way! LOL

reply

"Born to Lose" is my favorite. I love the John Travolta voice!

I always thought I was the only person who ever saw this/remembered this cartoon as well! They DON'T make cartoons like these anymore- cartoons with a message that compassion is more important than competition- that seen where the goat and the lioness hold hands together crossing the finish line- cartoons where the message is more than a cliche, but where adults learn too, and adults are CHALLENGED by the message that is conveyed- this wasn't only a delightful and truly witty cartoon- but a challenging one as well. And it didn't rely on "baby humor" (aka fart jokes, booger jokes), but creativity, passion, IMAGINATION- wow, how truly inspirational on so many levels. It makes me think of the potential we have as a human race.
