Ending

Maybe it's cus I'm a hopeless romantic....but I was really hoping that Woody and the mom would get together at the end of the movie. He was so friendly and helpful toward them and the kids obviously loved him.

Did anyone else feel that way?

I agree with you! But the movie was more bout the Mother and Son relationship than anything else.

Yeah I know.... but the mom went through SO much crap and her husband was such a a**hole leaving them like that when his family needed them most. She deserved a happy ending just as much as her son did.

Yeah, but I didn't really see any kind of romantic chemistry or anything leaning towards that. Woody was cute though. I think before she starts thinking about relationships she needs to focus on her son and providing for him for a while. Then once he's stable maybe she should get back into dating, AFTER she's had time to think about what went wrong the first time and what she wants in a partner, which also includes considering what is best for Jonah. I know a lot of women don't care for a relationship right away and the women that do usually move too fast. Wait was she still married?

I think part of her happy ending was that her son was going to be just fine. That IS a happy ending.

On another note I was so mad at James Wood in this movie. But at times the mom made me mad as well. And I'd like to have seen more about how he was misdiagnosed. My mom had doctors tell her to give up on my brother. First of all he wasn't deaf, but a premmie and they said he wouldn't make it and that she was young, she could have more children, as if he could be replaced. They thought he wouldn't learn, wouldn't grow, wouldn't speak correctly but he overcame all that. All because my mom didn't believe what they said, she couldn't. My brother might have ended up in one of those facilities or worse if not for her fight. But then again my mom's always been that determined type of person.

My brother was born in the 70s, so this all would have been happening around the same time. I realize the mentality was different in those days but I'm so glad that there were people (like my mom, and to an extent the character in this movie) who went against the grain and stood up for their children/others. Could you imagine all of the kids who were misdiagnosed? Or treated unfairly because of this? And it was even worse when my mother was a child. It wasn't just ADHD/ADD/behaviorial problems but very serious and sometimes simple issues.

Rest in Peace Johnny Otis, Etta James, a Rhythm & Blues legend & a true artist you will be missed.

I think Woody already had a girlfriend (that blonde interpreter). They looked so together so cant see Mother and Woody together.
