review on front page; mandatory viewing

I know, if I'm going to criticize a review I might as well write my own, but this more of a criticism on imdb than on the reviewer. The person who posted the review on the front page obviously has not seen the other 4 films in the cycle. So I ask, why would you place that one on the front page? I don't know how those things are done, but it seems to me like a pretty stupid move.
Anyways please, before you watch this film, watch the other 4 in the cycle, they are very enjoyable, perhaps more than this one, which is a wrap up and not a very succesful one at that. After the other 4, then watch this one, it'll make it a much more enjoyable experience because Truffaut plays around with elements from the other films. He doesn't limit himself to referencing them, but he shows clips and reinterprets them or places them within a new context.

Not trying to be snobby,
just helpful
but yes I can be a snob

i think they just randomly put a review on the front page and change it every week to give a visitor differing opinions. i agree that it is best to watch the first 4 films before this lemon of a film, but it's not a total lost if you don't. hell, it may be even more interesting if you've haven't seen antoine and collette on its own, cuz the film borrowed so heavily from antoine and collette, i hit my fast-forward button more times than i would like. the problem with love on the run is the flashbacks, which are annoying and pointless, especially when the characters stare into space like idiots before the flashback starts..gawd. i'd say the film would be less boring to those who haven't seen the previous films because then at least everything in the film is fresh to them. then again, this film was made in a way that assumes you know antoine doinel and his character, so it may seem a little pointless. i had a friend who watched love on the run and didn't realize it was the same character from 400 blows and blew the film off as boring and talky because he didn't see stolen kisses etc. anyways, i'm rambling here.

the only value love on the run has is that it is the concluding film to the doinel series...on its own, it's pretty damn weak.

I agree that if you watch these films in order, the flashbacks seems lame and redundant. But you've got to remember that when these films were made, you didn't have vhs or dvd copies, and couldn't easily access the previous films. People seeing Love On The Run for the first time probably hadn't seen the previous films since their original releases, so flashbacks would be more helpful and refreshing than boring and redundant.
