An Abomination!

I saw this version when it first aired in December of 1979, and it was TERRIBLE!!! I don't think I've noticed it being aired one time since, which ought to tell you something. Probably the second worst Christmas-related feature I ever saw, after that Star Wars "Life Day" piece of crap.

Gamera is really neat! He is made from turtle meat! We've been eating Gamera!

I have seen it being broadcast on the local stations way back in the day, but not at all recently. I am sure it was at least twenty years and some change. There is not any interest for this to be show, unless Family Guy wants to rip on it.

I completely disagree, this was a very well-done adaptation. Winkler really showed his talent in this film. I don't see why you find it "terrible", because it is a wonderful TV movie.

At the time it was made, Winkler was only known for being "The Fonz". He had done The One and Only, which didn't do very well in the box office. When he did this and put in such a fine performance it caused people to view him with more respect. It wasn't long after that he did Swing Shift.

I loved this and showed it to my kids last night, who loved it also.

I'm with you, Bladerunner. I enjoyed this version of A Christmas Carol when it first aired, and tried to catch it as often as I could over the years. I miss it, and think the updating of the setting worked fine. Certainly far superior to the recent versions that pop up on the cable channels ad nauseum this time of year.

HAHA! I thought the use of the word 'abomination' way over the top. A hyperbole, if you will.

I personally love this version. But then I love the story in almost any of it's incarnations, except maybe Ebbie. The female Ebenezer. I didn't care for that version. There are certainly a few others including poorly adapted cartoon versions that are far worse than An American Christmas Carol.

Oh, my statement above doesn't include "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol". I love that one too. A classic.

I'm watching it now on youtube, not having seen it since it aired and I'm not enjoying it.
