Still waiting

With a writer/director like Joel Schumacher and a great cast of talent really too numerous to list here (see their names and roles on the main page), I can't understand why it has not been released on disc!

I'd consider it one of the best made-for-television movies ever made.
Fortunately I made a DVD transfer from the VHS recording I made shortly after it was released in 1979 (I think it was an ABC TV movie) but I'd like to have a better copy. Come on Universal, Motown or Schumacher......release it on disc!

I forgot to mention the song that Roy writes (in the movie, that is) and Tanya Tucker sings - "I'm The Singer, You're The Song." It's a beautiful song and was on her actual album "TNT" and one of her Greatest Hits as well.

I also like the act that Pat Ast (as Vera Elvira) does for the talent contest.
Had I been the judge, it would be hard for me to pick the winner between the two.

I doubt we'll ever see this released on DVD - movies with music are always tricky releases because you not only have to get the rights for the film but also for each individual song (with each rights holder wanting a chunk of the money). Unless you expect to sell a lot of copies (and this is definitely a niche movie), it's probably not worth the hassle to track down all the rights holders to all the songs.

I'm trying to keep this thread alive. Miracles can happen.

I'm also a huge fan of this film. You mentioned in another thread that you may have a DVD copy transferred from a VHS of an airing. Would it be possible to get a copy?

The movie is now on Youtube as of three weeks ago. Better watch it soon before they take it down!
