New movie site for message boards!

TMDB will replace IMDB, just type in any movie in the top "magnifying glass/white bar" There is discussion boards at the bottom.

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/792-platoon

They seem to have almost every movie IMDB did, and this site is better than "IMDB2" (another site which IMDB'ers are suggesting, but that site doesn't have exact movie searches like TMDB)

At the exact same time you were posting this on the Alien board, I posted the following reply to one of my own posts on another board. I think it's equally applicable here.

I like the format of the IMDB2 forum there but I don't think I'm going to be going anywhere when this place shuts down. "Refugee" boards never seem to last long. They eventually stagnate from lack of new members coming in. IMDB, being well known as an authoritative entertainment resource, was always drawing new people to comment in these little communities. A new message board may start off really strong but, without that connection or recognition, new members won't be showing up. The board eventually becomes insular and even a little provincial, thus ensuring a lack of "new blood." Then when the old crowd, in time, runs out of things to talk about it slowly but inexorably dies off. The members may still remain friends but the community itself suffers from lack of new input.

Please, please please don't think I'm knocking the idea of a new message board. I'm only saying the reasons why I probably won't be joining.

*Edited for specificity*

I can only conclude I'm paying off karma at a vastly accelerated rate.

Correct me if I'm wrong but IMDB2 doesn't have exact movie searches, it's just a long B&W forum, with movie categories, but let's say I want to ask a question about an older sci-fi like 2001, or Dark Star, I would have to go the "sci-fi thread" and try to ask about those certain older movies, when everybody else on there would be chatting about Martian, or Interstellar...

TMDB is a close to IMDB as possibly type in any old movie, and each movie has a full color page, with trailers, cast, discussion boards about THAT MOVIE ONLY, and ratings.

I will still stay on IMDB for all my lists, polls, watchlists and ratings, but seriously if I watch The Fly, or Videodrome and I have a question about a small scene in the future, Where is the quickest way I could get that answered?! IMDB2 or TMDB?

reply

I'm sorry. "Format" may have been a poor choice of words on my part. I'm not a techie so I don't really understand some of the vernacular. I guess what I like about it is the layout and features over there. That may have been what I should have said. Forgive me? 

You are correct, it doesn't have title-specific searches and may be lacking in other features I don't know about but my point wasn't about such things. I was only trying to describe what I see as the eventual fate of "refugee" boards.

Well in all honesty, if I'm watching Altered States, or Dune in the future and need an answer about a small scene where's the quickest place to get it!??

Not IMDB they won't have boards anymore haha.

reply

Again, just for specificity...

The reply I quoted wasn't to you initially. It was a response to a reply someone made on my post over on the WKRP board. I was lamenting the closure of all of these boards. He suggested some alternatives, among them was the IMDB2 board. I didn't even look at the others on his list. Again, in my reply, I was only trying to describe what I think will happen when people flock to other boards elsewhere on the Internet. It wasn't to knock your board or his or anyone's.

*edited* because I apparently posted something incorrect. 

Ok fair enough. Buuuuut.... As IMDB won't have msg boards anymore which generates most of their activity.
Where is the easiest way for me to get answers about certain movies in the future?

reply

I've signed up for TMDb as bluersun... Maybe some of you there...!

reply

I don't know what possessed me to do it, but I signed up as well. First thing I noticed is you can't simply upload an avatar. You have to go through a third party site. It was 2AM so I wasn't really prepared to get into all that just yet.

I have tried adding Alien and Aliens as a favorite and yet every time I return to my account page it tells me I haven't added any favorites yet.

Speaking of Alien (and I realize this isn't the fault of the site staff or admins) the FIRST posts I saw in both the Alien and Aliens forums were Alien3 fans knocking Aliens.

You can't view posts "nested," the whole place looks more like it was designed to be used on smartphones and I don't particularly care for that. There are other issues but it seems like Travis is working on them. I'm very impressed with his skill and determination but it doesn't seem like he's terribly well prepared.

So far, not a great beginning for me. I'm sure it's just "growing pains" but I'm still not yet sure I'll be staying. Jury's still out on it.

Similar thoughts from me, I can access a stuff on my tablet, but very little from my smart phone tbough... And signing up to a third party site to upload an avatar is a bit crap!

But, minor complaints aside I'll give it a go for the foreseeable...!

Finally got the "favorites" thing to work! Maybe I was doing something wrong before. Whatever, they work now.

On tmdb, only the newest titles are active enough for you to get a quick response. Otherwise, only a select few TV shows having a cult following get the most traffic.

The traffick on this site is picking up but the people are really critical of the movies and are no help whatsoever. So IMDb was really the only forum where you could be in contact with all types of posters in the discussion threads.

I have registered for this site. It does look promising!

Looks ok... I'll probably sign up and hope the community picks up as it looks fairly quiet right now...
