Agatha and Wally's fate (spoiler)

I gather that Wally Stanton was a completely fictional character?

The film ends with Agatha and Wally suggesting they might meet again after Agatha's divorce, then we read the footnote that Agatha got divorced two years later. There's no answer to the nagging question of whether Agatha and Wally reunited, but I guess it's left to the viewer. What do you think?

Who cares?

Wally Stanton was an entirely fictional character and I just never found Dustin Hoffman convincing in the part of the reporter, nor as a prospective suitor of Agatha Christie.

The film was technically marvellous to look at and very convincing in it's depiction of the shy Christie, as a troubled, early twentieth century popular literary phenomenon, but the story lacked substance. Neither suspenseful, mysterious nor romantic.

No wonder it has virtually been forgotten, despite the "A" list cast and a talented, versatile director in Michael Apted. All a bit of a waste IMO.

Watched most of it today on tv, and this is precisely my assessment. But it has a grand look.

Just watched this & liked it. Great cast & scenery, the film is subtle.

I disagree, the film had all of these things, but in a subtle way. Reminds me of an indy/European film, but with a big budget.

I loved, loved, loved this, every minute. I guess it's all based on our likes and dislikes. I was just enchanted, or did you get that idea?

he is fictional, but Agatha cHristie was tracked to harrogate by a journalist, peter Ritchie-Calder, but he was Scottish, not american.

A few years after her divorce from Archie Christie, Agatha married a young archaeologist called Max mallowan, who she met while traveloing in the middle east. That marriage lasted until Agatha's death in 1976.
