People on this board keep comparing this film and Airplane!

That's like comparing dried dog food to a porterhouse steak.

Mad, mad, mad world keeps getting thrown around as well. Shoot, the entire cast of that classic film would have schooled everyone in 1941 on the definition of comedy.

Yeah I think Airplane ripped off 1941, the only difference is better, this film was bloddy awful, how did hell did THEE steven spielberg direct this *beep*

reply

Actually, Airplane is very much a comedy remake of Zero Hour!, plot, character names, and stretches of dialogue are the same.

reply

Airplane is a direct spoof of Airport. 1941 doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Airplane.

reply

Actually, Airplane! is a direct spoof of Zero Hour, with only a few elements of the Airport series thrown in.

hey i've never of that one, thanks. I'll have to check it out.

Airplane is a parody movie and a different style of comedy. This is just zany comedy which is not the same

Depends what you mean by compare. I don't consider the movie at all similar to Airplane! except that it involves planes. However, with the movie coming out around the same time it's hard not to compare them as a way to demonstrate how 1941 got it wrong.

I also compare it in that way to Life of Brian. Those two movies (Airplane! and life of Brian) are perhaps the two funniest movies of all time. For me that gives 1941 no excuse for the comedy seeming so dated. I was only 4 when the movie came out so I have no idea how people felt back then, but to me it seems like it must have seemed dated even back then.

I really can't think of many comparisons between 1941 and Airplane! except they both open with a Jaws parody and both have Robert Stack doing his amusing straight man act.
