I worked as an usher in a movie theatre during the '70's and got to see this movie over and over and over again.The theatre was always packed, and there were fist fights when some of the patrons got up to go out of the theatre and came back to find their seat taken.
You have to remember that this is North America where there was not alot of nudity in general release movies and there was no video yet. So porn movies were hard to come by(no pun intended).
I can remember thinking at the time though that while Bo Derek was a nice enough looking girl, she wasn't my idea of anything special.

She does look very good for her age and it looks like she takes good care of herself. However, she is kind of average looking. But back when the movie was made, a lot of guys actually thought she was pretty hot; I guess it was just a different time. Also around that time, Farrah Fawcett, Brooke Shields, Suzanne Somers, as well as a few others were considered hot back then too.

She was prettier before she got her nose job. Apparently, her husband John Derek liked women with tiny pointed noses. That's because when country singer Shania Twain did a music video on the couple's ranch, he told her that her nose was too wide.

I wasn't born when the movie was made but when i saw her running on the beach i understood why Dudley saw her as a 10.
The conventional wisdom is to look for big tits,6ft tall blonde,big ass,pouty lips and all.
They didn't!
The picked somebody who was average all round but with a perfect package and it worked!
The staying power of her beauty on this movie(and in real life because Bardot did not age well) shows she's a perfect 10.
Also you don't need big tits and pornstar looks to be perfect!
Even then, at my first screening of '10' at the movie house, I though Bo was quite pretty and worthy of the title, though Julie Andrews was quite pretty as well. Ol' George Weber wasn't realizing that his wife, Samantha, could easilly be considered a '10' for a fine lady of her agegoup.
I only thought Bo was a mite too skinny and maybe an extra 5 pounds or so to help even out the area of her tummyline would've complimented Bo very well, at least from an Australian's point of view. Though I do realize the film was made to appeal to American audiences, American filmmakers can still take a cue from the natural beauty many Australian ladies have.
