Why is this movie so underrated?!

Why is this movie so underrated eventhough it has beautiful and powerful meanings with excellent performance by Pacino?
Film like And Justice for All has the same rating as Trick 'r Treat??

Yeah you got a good point. I hear a filmmaker once say that the '70s was the last decade of the independent film. Beginning in the early '80s, studios started to see the $$ that were out there thanks to movies like Jaws and Star Wars. Not that those two didn't totally rock. But the efforts of the directors and writers of those films to bring something unique to the screen inadvertently destroyed the independent Hollywood of the 60s and 70s.

Now, we get tripe like remakes of old T.V. shows, retellings of stories that have been told time and again, and sequels. This isn't to say that all of the stuff coming out of Hollywood today is bad.

On the contrary... Avatar was one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's just that films like that are few and far betwen these days.

It's fitting that "And Justice For All" came out at the end of the '70s. It was a fitting end to a great decade for movies.

I think you could maybe take Absolute Power off of the list and then say that all of the movies you listed are different from what we usually get. The '90s had its share of unique movies as did the 200s.

"Falling Down" and "Dark Blue" are just 2 that come to mind, as is the recent movie "Street Kings."

The point is that movies like these and the EXCELLENT Arlington Road (good call, by the way) used to be the norm. Now they are few and far between.

Is there anything wrong with a big budget blockbuster? Absolutely not. Hey, one of my all time favorie "popcorn" movies is Armageddon. And Avatar was a message heavy, wow factor movie that blew my mind.

But those movies aren't the type that make you think about things that you used to accept without even thinking.

The movies on your list do that, and it's a refreshing change of pace to see movies like that.

~ I don't understand why it's so underrated? Justice for All is an excellent movie. That haves profound themes & meanings to all. Al Pacino has delivered a tremendous performance as Kirkland.

This is one of the greatest films ever made IMO, it has everything and if it's underrated, it's a travesty. I mean look at the whole cast alone.

The performaces by ALL, from the smallest to Pacino are astonishing. It has the perfect mix of comedy and drama. I laugh so hard at some of the stuff and then it can change so quickly but effortlessly to high drama. This film is perfection, film-making at it's best.

Definately in my top ten films if not, top five of all time.

Basically a social commentary on the corruptness of the legal system. A bit over the top, and with numerous comedic scenes.

It's my second favorite Pacino movie, next to "Scent of a Woman". I like his films where he does his thing with words, and not the ones where he goes berserk and creates a bloodfest.

"And Justice for All" would probably be a limited release art movie if it came out today. It doesn't contain the ingredients necessary for a mainstream film by today's standards.

I saw it the" first time with a buddy at a multiplex. We had originally paid to see "Blue Lagoon", but when the promoted Brooke Shields nudity failed to materialize, we snuck into the one next door, and it turned out to be this film. I have watched it numerous times over the last 30+ years.

One criticism I hear from younger folks is that they like the movie, but can't handle the disco soundtrack. Dave Grusin wrote the score, and was a respected composer. He was merely writing in the style of music popular at the time. "Saturday Night Fever" had come out two years prior, and disco was what the mass audience was listening to. Older people now say they hated disco back in the day, but trust me, they didn't at the time.

Tell those younger folks they need to get over it---disco was THE music of the '70's,too---and it's the basis for today's club music,so get over it.

AJFA has been shown on the MOVIES channel a few times this month (and is being shown a couple of times tonight.) I've never seen this film all the way through, and I remember catching that classic ending when I was a little kid on TV---I think I remember it also being parodied on SNL or something like that. Just wondering why it was a flop, considering that the subject matter was par for the course in 1970s films, and the fact that it had Al Pacino in his prime---I'm surprised that it seems to be one of his least-talked films, oddly enough. I'll check it out first chance I get.

While it's no masterpiece I still highly recommend it to Al Pacino fans.
