This show takes me back...

Man, how I miss this show. This was the ultimate show I grew up with and how I wanted to become part of the cast members. It was a shame it only lasted until 1990. I was only seven then and I thought maybe, just maybe, I would I love to try to be on the show for once. It wasn't until I realized it was a Canandian show filmed in an Ontario set, right? I frankly never realized the kids and Les were all Canadians. Showed how much I didn't know when I was a kid.

I was also 7 in 1990. I loved this show like so many others growing up in this era. As a kid I remember thinking how bizarre and off-the-wall the show was (especially the character Barth) and now, seeing the type of toned-down, sterile, safe programming on TV nowadays, it couldn't ring any more truer. I really miss this show and old Nick in general and wish it'd get aired in re-runs. I can't imagine it NOT attracting a sizable audience of brand new young fans because there simply isn't anything out there like this one of a kind show.

Quit that snifflin' or the boogeyman'll be gettin' ya.

I was in Cub Scouts in 1984/85 and we had to do a fun night with games, pine box derby, and some other things. Of course all the parents came and we did a locker room sketch based off of the one in You Can't do that on Television. I don't remember much about the rest of the night except that that part of it was a lot of fun. I too wanted to be on that show.

I think for kids back then it just looked like a lot of fun. The kids in the show looked like your friends from school. They looked and acted like normal kids and you could relate to them. I see programs aimed at kids now and the cast are always so hip and cool. They wear the hottest clothes and talk in the latest slang. They act less like kids and more like adults going to a club. I feel bad for the kids these shows are aimed at because the characters in these shows look more like something kids are expected to be like and less like what they really are.

I'm putting you on hold... until you're dead!

I was 15 in 1990. I remember when the show first started airing on Nickelodeon. I don't know what year but I think maybe 1981 or so. Or maybe that was when we got cable. I remember seeing ads for the show before it began. I thought the name was cool. Forbidden things seem on tv but aimed at kids. Lol my mom hated the show. She'd often comment how gross it was or ask how could we watch even bear to watch it. But we loved that show. It was the best thing on tv in my mind.

But I think by 1990 I didn't watch it anymore. By then I was into MTV and New Kids on the Block. Plus the show had newer cast members. I remember feeling it had changed too much.
