What's your funniest episode and why?

Mine's The Madame Du Toit episode purely because both leads behave like children and its so funny with the car and the rector.

That's my favourite episode too. The bit with the Rector appearing at the car is only a few seconds long but it is just so funny - the expression on Audrey's face when he arrives! I also love Audrey's comments about Richard's decor (personally I also think it's horrible, she's got much better taste).

If we're talking laugh-out-loud funny, I have two favorite episodes -

1. The Mlle. du Toit episode (Obviously I'm not the only one who loves it)

2. Audrey's TV commercial for Fauntleroy's Old English Tonic ("The Little Aristocrat"). Brabinger's drunk scene alone makes this one a classic. Favorite line -

Audrey: WE British?!? DeVere's about as British as the Brandenburg Gate!!!

reply

Lol, yes that's a good one! Brabinger drunk was fantastic. I also liked the end bit when Richard shows what a great guy he is: he forgives Audrey for bouncing the cheque in the supermarket, & also for taking his place in the commercial. It's lovely to see their friendship really starting to take off.

Yeah, that's probably my second favourite - I think that end bit's cute too. I remember first seeing the bit where he realises what she's done & seems to get angry, then gives her that lovely smile of his & helps label the honey. Melt!

My favourite is probably the Mlle. Du Toit episode too, I really like the scene where Audrey and Majory are fighting over being his wife...very ironic!

While the Mlle DuToit episode is still my favourite, I've been rewatching some other episodes & am liking the penultimate one more & more, when Audrey's uncle helps Richard in the city. The look on her face when Richard tells her he might have to leave Grantleigh is so touching - "We need you here". Awww! Plus, when she goes to the club & Uncle Greville introduces her to Lumsden & Gayforth. "How do you do, Mr Lumsden. Please don't get up." Just the way she says that makes me laugh out loud. And also when Uncle Greville introduces the other one as "Gayboy". Fantastic! You really see Audrey's attachment to Richard here, it's lovely.

I also love the episode where Audrey's old school friend come to stay. When she and Marjory are trying to come up with reasons for Diana not to go over to the manor for the night, Audrey suggests; 'we'll tell her it's a full moon and Richard's likely to go off his head!'

reply

The series concludes beautifully, and one of the things I love about the "Julian Gayforth" episodes is that the actor who plays him (Peter Penry-Jones) is married to Marjory (Angela Thorne) in real life.

reply

Really? I didn't know that. Anyone know if he's related to the rather nice Rupert Penry-Jones? Surely it's not that common a name! I'll need to look it up sometime.

"Inside of me, there's a thin person just screaming to get out."
"Just the one, dear?"

reply

As you've undoubtedly discovered by now, he's their son. Their other son, Laurence, is also an actor.

reply

You learn something new every day. Nice to know these people I like are all connected!

Yeah, that's cool. Her main concern seems to be the fact that they're sneaking off to the woods - vulgar - but she's obviously just so jealous about the idea of something going on between Marjory & Richard, lol.

I love the episode that has Rula Lenska in it. She plays a perfume distributer or something like that. I liked watching the tension between her and Audrey.
