Quote game

Over on the "Good Life/Good Neighbors" board there's a game where one person posts a quote, the next says where it's from and adds another. Let's try it here. Starting with an easy one:

AUDREY: Marjory, are you going to dress for dinner?
MARJORY: I have!
AUDREY: To eat it or cook it?

reply

The exchange above (between Audrey and Marjory) takes place in the very first episode.

Here's a quote from one of my favorite episodes. Can you identify it?

AUDREY: I don't approve of all this sex equality. I mean, what was wrong with women being the dominant partners?

reply

I am absolutely useless at knowing where quotes come from, but that is definitely one of my favourites.

Another is "this country has survived trial, hardships and Labour governments".

***Do you like Liver and Bacon? Come and see my collection on the Isle of Man***

reply

That's from the first episode. Love that quote as well! How about this one:

"Democracy's all very well. But why give it to the people?"
or "May me and Harry offer you every assistance with your death."

To the Manor born was full of classic one-liners!

reply

"May me and Harry offer you every assistance in your death" is from the second episode of the first series in a conversation where majory and audrey are talking about how the manor looks a bit bare without the condolescence cards.

reply

Yes, that's a good one! Okay, here's one of my favourites - probably kind of obvious but I love it.

RICHARD: "I wish you'd stop moving the furniture around. When I sit in my favourite chair, I at least expect the damn thing to be there!"

Catriona x

"Fate shuffles the cards and we play" (Schopenhauer)

reply

reply

"England for the English as we used to say about India" Audrey to Marjory

reply

Is tha not the second episode when audrey is trying to work out what to chuck and what to keep as she moves into the lodge

reply

Mrs. Poo: Slides down the gullet like the devil in velvet trousers!
