Indeed. It's brilliant. I thought it would seem dated but it really doesn't. The stories are very watchable and the acting is brilliant. My only problem is occasonally the very down-at-heel women characters have incongruously perfect cut-glass RP accents. But that's a minor concern.

Do these episodes appear to be edited? I did hear a while back that they are a lot shorter than they used to be, because of the music rights involved. If the rights could not be obtained for some of the music, the particular scene featuring it was cut.

The Alibi showings of Shoestring were edited...but not for music rights. They appear to be the trimmed versions of the show broadcast on weekday afternoons on BBC1 a few years back. Each episode was trimmed by up to five minutes both to fit the available timeslot and (according to the BBC) to remove content not suitable for afternoon viewing.

The music rights issue only affects DVD and latterly VHS releases.

It's frustrating that Alibi have chosen to show the trimmed versions as I see no reason why they couldn't show the full ones...maybe they're worried about content too, or perhaps it fits better into their schedule.

I wish the BBC would give the show a dvd release especially as 2009 is the 30th aniversary of Shoestring. If they can afford to give Jonathan Ross a multi million pound contract, I'm sure they could pay for the music royalties required for the dvd release.

Correct, TV stations are also licenced as Radio stations therefore their prc licence will cover any music. I also asume that the edits are because of the timeslot.

It does tend to get regularly repeated on satellite. Its just too good.
